Co-responsibility a Key Pillar in the Ponicode Mindset 

As disruption in the world of work continues due to the ongoing health crisis, Ponicode took advantage of the lifting of lockdown restrictions this summer to bring the Ponicode team together for a two-day seminar. The aim was to strengthen the ties forged since the adventure began, get to know one another better and build a shared vision and values… all of which combined fun, team-building activities!

Imbued with the #OneTeam mindset, the two-day event was an opportunity to think about the key values underpinning Ponicode’s business culture, allowing each member of the team to become familiar with them and the company’s vision. It also gave Ponicode time to clarify and consolidate its mission, which can be summarised as follows: to reduce the time spent by developers on non-coding tasks and help them improve the quality of their code. Our ambition is to become the go-to partner for developers.

Team spirit, well-being and kindness being the key drivers in our start-up’s journey, it was important for us to take this time to look back on accomplishments and moments of doubt we have experienced since day 1. Dialogue is the way forward if we are to expand our reflexion and keep improving.

This work on questioning and verbalising our DNA, combined with the time spent exchanging ideas uncovered a new pillar in the Ponicode mindset: Co-Responsibility. Discussions about our strong points and the areas in which we need to progress, with the perspective of ensuring continuous improvement for both company and individuals, helped revitalise the team spirit.

 

In concrete terms, this means ensuring that all members of the organisation are fully aware of their individual responsibility in the company’s success. Each and everyone can and must have an impact on our strategy, roadmap and ensuing decisions. Strategic decisions are not taken individually: ideas stemming from the entire team need to feed into the decision-making process.

During the seminar, our team took this effort a step further by organising a workshop hosted by a psychologist who has been supporting each member of the team individually since the company was founded. She deftly brought the team face to face with its doubts, weaknesses and inconsistencies, thereby fostering a more mature group spirit and reconciling the diverse range of profiles through a common language.

 

As CEO and Co-Founder, Patrick Joubert, often reminds us, Chief Executives should not be the sole decision-makers in their organisation: their role is to enable individual team members to become efficient and relevant decision-makers in their own right. Ponicode therefore calls upon all of its co-workers to take on board the company’s DNA and values and become a key player and decision maker. It is important that all employees have a role in steering the company’s strategy and turning their ideas into concrete accomplishments.

 

In a nutshell, the benefits of the seminar are best summed up by the software engineer and Ponicode co-founder, Benedetta Dal Canton: “This team building session allowed us to verbalise the code now etched onto Ponicode’s DNA, which can then be kept alive in our company and shared with new arrivals. In this way, we will each gain in maturity and grow as part of the team in a healthy way, with the shared goal of developing the company and pushing ahead with our innovative approach.”
